BIOGRAPHY You were born into this life. The Mathison family were a long line of police officers. Your grand parents had been officers, as had most of your relatives and your parents. Your mother and father were a team like none other in Atlanta. You grew up playing cops and robbers with your brothers and sisters. You already knew what you wanted to be before you had enrolled in preschool, and worked had towards it with perfect grades. When you were seventeen you had enrolled in the police academy. Finally your dream was coming through. You made it through the academy with perfect grades - among the best in the academy's history. "You could very well be the best cop to ever come from our family," you remember your mother telling you. With a family lineage like yours, that would forever be the greatest thing anyone had ever told you. You became an officer. Of course you had to work your way up, so you started small. When you were eighteen your parents had gone out of the city to work on a case in Summerhaven where one of the richer folks were under suspicion. Of course no one told them that was pretty much the norm over there. It was funny really. You were still there little girl, and they had taken you with them to Summerhaven. You helped out with the case as best as you could. It could be your big break if you proved yourself. You were this close to cracking the case, and then it happened. Your parents had gotten in two deep and they paid for it. They had come that night, surprising you all. You watched as they put a bullet through your father's skull and then as they raped your mother and slit her throat. Your siblings were next; your brothers beaten to death and your sisters raped and beaten to death alike. You were last. Raped and tortured and then... spared... You weren't sure why, but it happened. They didn't hide their faces, yet they left you alive. Of course they threatened you, but that didn't stop you. You had went to the cops, counting on them to take your word. And even with the overwhelming evidence, no one took your word for it. Everybody feared that if they ever did anything against the man responsible, with his money, he would have them dead within the week. You weren't. You pursued your family's killers. It wasn't difficult. And then when you had the chance, you didn't pull the trigger. Your grandfather always told you that if you killed you were no better than the criminals. You managed to lock them up. Finally justice would be served, you thought. How foolish. The court ruled in their favor and they were free. Your face was marked now. You didn't run though. And so when they came for you that night you came closer to death's door than before. But they spared you... again. They placed a gun in your hands. You weren't sure why, but when they had picked you up and told you to shoot them, you hesitated again. You couldn't do it. They laughed at you, ridiculed your deceased family, spoke of their screams as they died. But you still didn't pull the trigger. They left after that. You went to work the next day, battered and bruised. No one asked questions, no one cared. And then it happened. You were told you were appointed to chief of police. What had you even done to deserve this? And even though you didn't know why, you didn't ask and in spite of your suffering you couldn't help but feel... happy. You went home that night to find "them" their again. They explained how their boss had pull some strings to get you to the position. And you weren't sure why, but you thanked them. That didn't stop them from having their way with you of course, but they didn't realize what they had signed up for. You took your job as police chief seriously. You were the first person in years to stand up to crime in the city. It only made things was though since those with the right pull and money always got off free, and you and your officers only paid for it; them with their lives, you with bruises. And yet, you kept pursuing. Hopeful that someday the law would finally work in your favor if you waited long enough. By now, everyone in town knew you as the police chief, but nobody actually killed you for it even as they killed other officers though. As if your efforts were a sick joke to them that they didn't want to lose. You were the first police chief, but also the first laughingstock in a long line of great officers. And sometimes even you can't help but think... Maybe you actually like it. |
